A baseline panel that sets the reference point before any further testing or programme begins.
A health screening is the basic blood panel that gives a full picture of your body at one point in time. At iLIV Clinic we start almost every patient here, because it sets the reference point before any further testing or programme begins.
What a health screening measures
- Full blood counthaemoglobin, white cells, platelets
- LiverALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin, albumin
- Kidneycreatinine, urea, eGFR
- Metabolicfasting glucose, HbA1c
- Lipidstotal cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides
- Inflammationhs-CRP
The panel covers full blood count, liver function, kidney function, electrolytes, fasting glucose, a lipid profile and a basic inflammation marker. Each one tells you something different. Full blood count shows whether anaemia or infection is present. Liver and kidney function matter because both organs process most drugs and supplements, so we need to know their state before writing any prescription.
Who this screening suits
- Anyone who has not had bloods done in twelve months
- People about to start a weight or hormone programme
- Anyone with a family history of diabetes, hypertension or heart disease
- Patients taking long-term supplements without monitoring
How to prepare
Fast for eight to ten hours, since food affects glucose and triglycerides. Plain water is fine throughout. Avoid heavy exercise and alcohol for twenty-four hours beforehand, because both can raise liver enzymes temporarily. If you take prescription medication, carry on as normal unless the doctor tells you otherwise at booking.

How we read the results
Results take three to five working days. The doctor reads the numbers as a set rather than one by one. For example, a slightly raised liver enzyme alongside high triglycerides and a large waist points to a different pattern than a raised liver enzyme on its own. Laboratory reference ranges are population statistics, not personal targets, so interpretation has to account for your age, sex and clinical history.
Limits of a health screening
This panel does not detect cancer, does not assess sex hormones in detail, and does not replace imaging. It gives a baseline. If something in it shows a pattern worth investigating, the doctor will suggest a more specific test such as a hormone profile or a metabolic assessment. The Ministry of Health Malaysia publishes the reference guidance we follow. To start, book a consultation or read what functional medicine is first.
