Gut Reset

A staged approach to gut problems, built from symptoms and test results rather than from a generic list of foods to avoid.

Quick Answer

Gut Reset is a staged approach to digestive problems, built after symptoms are assessed and, where needed, after stool or food tolerance testing. It is not a detox and it is not long term food avoidance. Most people run it over eight to twelve weeks.

Who this is for

Most people who arrive with gut problems have carried them a long time. Daily bloating they have decided is normal. A bowel habit that swings between hard and loose. A list of foods they avoid that grows longer every year without anyone ever confirming the list was necessary.

  • Daily bloating you have decided is normal

  • Skin, joint or brain fog problems that rise and fall in step with gut symptoms

How it runs

The consultation collects the pattern of your symptoms, not just a list of them. When it started, what was happening at the time, what makes it worse and what settles it, and how it relates to meal times.

  1. 01Assessment of the symptom patternWhen it started, what was happening at the time, what makes it worse and what settles it, and how it relates to meal times. Antibiotic history and a history of severe food poisoning are included, since both are often forgotten.
  2. 02Early stage, remove the triggersBased on your food record and test results rather than a generic list. This stage is time limited and is not a permanent state.
  3. 03Middle stage, support digestionSupporting digestion and the gut lining, according to what the assessment showed was needed.
  4. 04Final stage, reintroductionFoods go back one at a time under observation, so that you finish with a shorter list of restrictions than you started with. This is the stage most often skipped elsewhere.

What usually changes, and when

Bloating and bowel pattern tend to move first, often within two to four weeks. Symptoms outside the gut such as skin and energy tend to follow later, if they were related at all.

WhenWhat usually moves
Week 2 to 4Bloating and bowel pattern
LaterSymptoms outside the gut such as skin and energy, if they were related at all
Week 6If nothing has changed, that is meaningful information and the plan gets reviewed rather than simply continued
Week 8 to 12The whole process. Some people need longer at a particular stage.

Limits and who this does not suit

This approach is not for diagnosing bowel disease. It does not replace endoscopy or colonoscopy where those are what is needed.

  • This approach is not for diagnosing bowel disease and it does not replace endoscopy or colonoscopy where those are what is needed
  • Blood in the stool or black tarry stools need medical assessment sooner, not a programme
  • Weight loss without trying, difficulty swallowing, repeated vomiting, or abdominal pain that wakes you from sleep
  • Food tolerance testing has limits. It measures specific reactions only and it is not a definitive list of what is safe or unsafe for you

Common questions

Is this a detox?

No. There is no juice fasting phase and no cleansing products. It is a staged approach to symptoms, with a stated reason at each stage.

Do I have to avoid gluten and dairy forever?

That is not the aim. Any avoidance window has an end date and is followed by reintroduction. If something genuinely is a problem for you, that becomes clear during that stage.

Do I need a stool test first?

Not necessarily. For some people the symptom picture is clear enough to begin. Testing is ordered when it will change what we do.

Do my gut symptoms need testing first?

It depends on the symptoms. Gut problems covers what gets checked first. A general reference on digestive disease is at NIDDK.

What is the next step?

Gut Reset starts with an assessment, not with a list of foods to avoid. Book a consultation, or see the tests and the gut health pathway.
