MCG Cardiac Screening at iLIV Clinic Damansara Perdana
Quick Answer

A non-invasive heart screen that uses no radiation, no contrast agent and no treadmill exercise.

MCG cardiac screening is a non-invasive check that uses no radiation, no contrast agent and no treadmill exercise. You simply lie still for a few minutes while the electrical signal of your heart is recorded and analysed. So it suits people who cannot or would rather not do an exercise stress test.

Who this cardiac screening suits

  • Age forty and over with one or more risk factors
  • Family history of early heart disease
  • High cholesterol, high blood pressure or diabetes
  • Current or former smokers
  • People who cannot do a treadmill test because of knee, hip or weight issues
  • Anyone who wants to avoid radiation from repeated scans

How this cardiac screening works

The recording captures your heart signal pattern over several minutes, then compares it against a database of patterns associated with restricted coronary blood flow. The output is a probability score rather than a picture of your arteries. Therefore we use it as a filter to decide who needs further investigation, not as a final diagnosis.

Interpretation

How we read the score

A low score means restricted blood flow is unlikely, and attention shifts to managing risk factors such as lipids and blood pressure. A high score, however, means referral to a cardiologist for further investigation such as CT coronary angiography or invasive angiography. We always read the result alongside an advanced lipid panel and your blood pressure.

What it cannot do

Limits

MCG does not replace angiography and does not measure a coronary calcium score. It is also not suitable as an emergency assessment. If you are having chest pain, sudden breathlessness, or pain radiating to the arm or jaw, go to a hospital emergency department rather than a clinic. Read the heart health pathway and the guide to heart and metabolic risk. See also the Ministry of Health Malaysia. Book a screening.

How the appointment runs

You lie down, we attach electrodes to your chest and limbs, and we record while you breathe normally. The whole process takes under ten minutes including setup. There are no needles and no injections, so you can go straight back to work afterwards. Avoid caffeine and heavy exercise for two hours beforehand, so your heart rate stays steady.
