Gut and Digestive Health
Persistent bloating, intolerance to certain foods, and changes in bowel habits. The gut affects more than digestion.

Bloating that lasts more than a few weeks is not normal. It is a signal worth investigating with clear tests.
Gut health shapes more than digestion. It affects nutrient absorption, daily energy, skin and mood. So this pathway suits people who have lived with bloating, changing stool habits, or feeling full too quickly, and who are tired of hearing that this is simply how they are built.

When to investigate gut health problems
- Bloating every day, rather than occasionally after a large meal
- Stool habits that changed, and then stayed changed for over three weeks
- Recurring upper abdominal pain or burning
- Iron or B12 deficiency that persists although you take supplements
- Skin rashes or joint pain arriving alongside gut symptoms
- A list of avoided foods that grows every month
The four most common causes
First, H. pylori infection irritates the stomach lining and links to ulcers. Second, bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine produces gas after certain carbohydrates. Third, an enzyme shortage such as lactase leaves food undigested. Fourth, slow gut motility drags everything out, and that usually ties back to chronic stress, poor sleep and irregular meal timing.
What we measure for gut health
We usually start with a stool panel including H. pylori antigen, because it answers the infection and absorption questions in one test. If your symptoms track specific foods, then we add allergy and tolerance testing. Meanwhile a general health screen catches the anaemia and thyroid problems that often masquerade as gut trouble. The Bahasa Melayu pathway covers the same ground.
Why elimination lists rarely fix it
Avoiding foods hides symptoms without answering the cause. Over time your diet narrows until nutrition suffers. Instead, we identify the cause first, and then use a structured elimination with a start date and an end date rather than a permanent banned list.
How long gut health takes to improve
If H. pylori is the cause, treatment runs fourteen days and we confirm six weeks later. If enzymes or meal patterns explain it, most people notice a change within two or three weeks. Slow motility takes longest, since sleep, stress and meal timing all have to shift together. Therefore we re-measure at eight weeks, so you can check what you feel against numbers.
When to go to hospital instead
Vomiting blood, black stools, difficulty swallowing, or sudden unexplained weight loss need urgent hospital assessment rather than a clinic appointment. The Ministry of Health Malaysia publishes general health information. Book a consultation.
Frequently Asked
Do probiotics help?
It depends on the cause. With bacterial overgrowth, probiotics can worsen bloating. Identify the cause first.
Do I need an endoscopy straight away?
Not necessarily. A stool and H. pylori panel is usually the sensible first step unless there are warning signs.
How long before things improve?
If the cause is infection, treatment runs fourteen days with confirmation testing six weeks later.
